Course Overview

This course develops skills and knowledge required to work in the Horticulture industry. You will have the opportunity to specialise in areas such as arboriculture, nursery (wholesale or retail), landscaping, turf or parks and gardens.

Career Opportunities

Work undertaken as Horticultural tradespersons can include:

  • Monitoring plant health
  • Operating and maintaining specialised and advanced machinery
  • Providing information on plants, products and treatments
  • Erecting horticultural structures
  • Controlling weeds, pests and diseases
  • Establishing and maintaining planted areas

Learning will be in a workplace or at TasTAFE facilities where appropriate, and may include:

  • Written tests.

To achieve a Certificate III in Horticulture, 16 units must be successfully completed:

AHCWHS301 Contribute to work health and safety processes
AHCPCM302 Provide information on plants and their culture
AHCPMG301 Control weeds
AHCPMG302 Control plant pests, diseases and disorders
AHCSOL303 Implement soil improvements for garden and turf areas
11 Elective Units
