UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE

How is undergraduate study different from postgraduate study?

The first studies undertaken at university are generally referred to as undergraduate studies, designed to introduce students to the knowledge base within a specific discipline. A Bachelor’s degree is the name of an award given to students upon completion of their undergraduate studies.

Postgraduate study refers to the range of courses available to students who have completed undergraduate studies. It requires a higher level of understanding, greater independence and more specialised knowledge than undergraduate study. Graduates with a Postgraduate degree are considered to be more highly qualified as a result.

What course should you choose? Vocational courses are run by private colleges, TAFE (Technical and Further Education) state schools and some universities. Schools offer different levels of vocational education, depending on the duration of the course, price and location.

Education can last from several months to 2 years, and the cost ranges from around AU $ 2,000 to around AU $ 7,000 for one semester (i.e. half a school year). Duration of courses at individual levels of professional qualifications:

Certificate I – (12 weeks – 15 weeks)

Certificate II – (15 weeks – 26 weeks)

Certificate III – (26 weeks – 2 years)

Certificate IV – (26 weeks – 2 years)

What to consider when choosing a school?

Choosing the right school should depend on your future professional and private plans. The offer differs not only in the level of professional qualifications, price, but also in duration, intensity and employment statistics for graduates. In many fields, especially in regional Australia, it is possible to partially cover the costs of education through government funding.

Most schools, apart from the so-called General English (general language skills at various levels), offers EAP (English for Academic Purposes), specialist (e.g. medical or business English) courses, as well as exam preparation IELTS, TOEFL, OET and Cambridge ESOL (PET , FCE, CAE and CPE).

VET courses entry requirements.
